Surfacing large slabs is a typical process in woodworking but often comes with some technical challenges. In this case we mounted a slab of bowling alley to the cnc, leveled it, and used the machine to surface the material.
This was an experiment to explore turning off the machine spindle. This allowed us to install a paint pen into the machine and use the machine to draw. A process like this could be useful for applying finish to specific parts, or for marking parts with labels or barcodes for easy assembly.
In this example a custom cast resin bowl was mounted and registered to the cnc in order to machine off excess material and cut a hole through the bottom to precise tolerances.
